True Colour Earth from Space
Daily true colour satellite imagery • drag to pan, scroll to zoom
A real photograph-style view of the UK and Europe from orbiting satellites, one stitched-together picture for each day. Pick a day and a satellite below. Gaps and diagonal bands are normal: each pass of a satellite only covers a strip of the Earth, and cloud can hide the ground. Imagery for the latest day fills in over several hours, so yesterday is shown by default.
About This Imagery
The four layers come from two families of satellite. VIIRS (on Suomi NPP and NOAA-20) and MODIS (on Terra and Aqua) both circle the Earth from pole to pole, passing over the UK at slightly different times of day. Comparing them is a quick way to watch fog clear or cloud build between a morning and an afternoon pass. Switching satellites on the same day often shows a very different sky.
